A former IMG tennis student-athlete with 5+ years in academic support for student-athletes at NCAA Division 1 setting, Tianyu Bao is the Academic Affairs Manager at IMG Academy starting in January 2021. Bao will oversee academics for boy’s and girl’s basketball programs.
Prior to his current role, Bao was the Athletic Academic Advisor at California State University, Bakersfield for three and half years. During his time with the Roadrunners, the baseball team have set a new team semester GPA record in four different occasions, including their first ever 3.0 or above semester in Fall 2020 (3.11). In addition, wrestling team also achieved their first 3.0 or above team semester GPA in Spring 2020 (3.07).
Before joining CSUB, Bao spent time working at Northwestern State University and University of South Florida for a year at each school. As a senior in undergrad at Florida Gulf Coast University, Bao interned for the Athletics Communication office, and was responsible for various tasks in the office and basketball in-game operations.
A former tennis student-athlete, Bao was a four-year starter of the FGCU men’s tennis team. In his four years at Fort Myers, Bao earned All-ASUN conference honors in each of the four years he suited up for the Eagles, currently ranked second in program history with overall wins (114, 50 doubles and 64 singles), and helped the Green and Blue to the program’s first regular season title, conference championship title, and first NCAA Tournament appearance, all in 2015.
Bao, a proud U.S. citizen, currently resides in Bradenton.
