BRADENTON, Fla. (July 30, 2024) - IMG Academy, the world's leading sports education brand celebrates the achievements of its alumni leading up to the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. These former IMG Academy student-athletes represent a wide range of countries and sporting events, showcasing IMG Academy's global reach and commitment to helping student-athletes win their future.
“The achievements of our alumni leading up to and participating in the 2024 Summer Olympics are a powerful affirmation of the training and development provided at IMG Academy," said Brian Nash, Vice President of Athletics at IMG Academy. “We are proud to see our former student-athletes pushing boundaries, achieving personal bests, and proudly representing their countries on the biggest global stage.”
IMG Academy is honored to celebrate these athletes and their remarkable accomplishments. See below for the IMG Academy alumni participating in the 2024 Summer Games:
Aleem Ford | Leones de Ponce of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional
Aleem Ford will be representing Puerto Rico in the Olympics. Ford spent the 2015-16 season as a post-graduate student-athlete at IMG Academy, where he averaged 13.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He went on to play college basketball for the Wisconsin Badgers and is now a professional player for the Leones de Ponce of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional.
Arella Guirantes | Diósgyőri VTK
Guirantes will also be representing Puerto Rico in the Olympics. She is IMG Academy’s first-ever WNBA draft pick, selected No. 22 overall. While at IMG Academy, she averaged 33 points, 13 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3 steals, and 2.6 blocks per game. During her collegiate career, she was a first-team All-Big Ten player at Rutgers University, where she was one of the nation's top scorers for the 2019-2020 season.
Dwight Powell | Dallas Mavericks
Powell is representing Canada in basketball at the 2024 Summer Olympics. During his time at IMG Academy, Powell averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. In the summer of 2009, he was one of two high school players invited to train with the Canadian National Team. After graduating, he played for Stanford University and was drafted into the NBA, recently making an appearance in the 2024 NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks.
Josh Green | Charlotte Hornets
Green is representing Australia at the Paris Olympics. During his time at IMG Academy, he earned numerous accolades. Competing in the 2019 national championship, the 2018-19 McDonald's All-American Game, the 2018 Basketball Without Borders Global Camp, and two Nike Hoop Summits in 2018 and 2019, Green proved his worth from the start. He went on to play for the University of Arizona and was selected 18th overall in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft.
Zach Edey | Memphis Grizzlies
Zach Edey was invited to Canada Basketball's training camp ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Edey graduated from IMG Academy in 2020 after two years at the school, playing on the boys' national team his senior year. He went on to play for Purdue University, leading the team to two consecutive first-seed rankings and its first Final Four appearance since 1980. In the 2024 NBA Draft, Edey was selected No. 9 overall by the Memphis Grizzlies, becoming the fifth IMG Academy alumnus center selected in NBA Draft history.
Byeong Hun An | PGA
An is representing Korea in golf at the Olympics. In 2009, An made golf history when he became the youngest winner of the prestigious U.S. Amateur, capturing the title at the age of 17. Last year, he finished T-3 in the Scottish Open, T-23 in The Open at Royal Liverpool in England, and runner-up in Greensboro. He most recently competed in the U.S. Open this year.
C.T. Pan | PGA
Pan is competing for Chinese Taipei in golf at the 2024 Olympics. Pan’s time at IMG Academy was marked by victories in several junior golf tournaments. He went on to play collegiate golf at the University of Washington. He won eight NCAA individual championships and became the record holder for the University of Washington men's team wins before turning professional and achieving success on the PGA Tour. Pan is entering this Olympics with a bronze medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Emiliano Grillo | PGA
Grillo is competing for Argentina in golf, bringing his talent to the Olympic greens. While at IMG Academy, he was a quarterfinalist in the U.S. Junior Open in 2008 and won the 2009 Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Award. He has two PGA Tour wins under his belt and most recently competed in the U.S. Open.
Nelly Korda | LPGA
Korda is competing for the USA in golf, coming off a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. On the LPGA Tour, Korda has won 14 times, including two major titles. She reached her highest world ranking of No. 1 in 2023. As an amateur, she won the 2015 Harder Hall Women's Invitational at the age of 17.
Nicolas Echavarria | PGA
Echavarria is representing Colombia in golf. At the junior level, he placed third at the Junior World Golf Championship, took third at the 2011 Canadian International Junior Challenge, and was a semifinalist at the U.S. Junior Amateur. He also won the Colombian Amateur. After graduating, he played at the University of Arkansas and quickly made a name for himself on the professional circuit, recently winning his first title in March 2023 on the PGA Tour at the Puerto Rico Open.
Danielle Collins | WTA
Collins is representing the USA in tennis. She played collegiate tennis at the University of Virginia, where she won two NCAA singles championships before turning professional and achieving a top-20 WTA ranking. This year, she won her first WTA 1000 event at the Miami Open and reached a career-high ranking of No. 7 in the world.
Kei Nishikori | ATP
Nishikori is competing for Japan in tennis at the 2024 Olympics. Nishikori came to IMG Academy when he was 14. He is the only man from his country ever to break into the top-five of the world rankings. Nishikori made tennis history by becoming the first-ever Asian male player to reach a Grand Slam final at the U.S. Open and qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals.
Sebastian Korda | ATP
Korda was invited to compete in the Olympics for the USA. During his time at IMG Academy, Korda was a top-ranked junior player, winning the Australian Open Junior title. He transitioned smoothly to the professional circuit, achieving significant success with a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 20.
Davonte Howell | University of Tennessee
Howell is competing in the 100m track and field event for the Cayman Islands. Howell competed for IMG Academy during the 2022 and 2023 track & field seasons and went on to compete at the University of Tennessee, where in his first year he earned a spot in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He has consistently represented the Cayman Islands on the international stage.
Dylan Woodruffe | IMG Academy
Woodruffe competed in the Olympic Trials for Trinidad and Tobago. As a student-athlete at IMG Academy, Woodruffe is a standout sprinter, setting personal bests in the 100m and 200m. Most recently, he anchored Trinidad and Tobago’s U20 4×100m relay to victory at the World Athletics Relay Championship.
Malcolm Clemons | University of Florida
Clemons is representing Team USA in the long jump at the Paris Olympics. He trained at IMG Academy his senior year and continued his track career at the University of Florida, where he medaled in multiple SEC championships and earned All-American honors.
Rikkoi Brathwaite | Indiana University
Brathwaite is competing in the 100m for the British Virgin Islands at the Paris Olympics. After his time at IMG Academy, he went on to compete at Indiana University, where he became a conference champion and earned Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year.
