No. 1 IMG Academy Football | 2020 High School National Champions

In a year of unknowns and uncertainties, there was one constant: IMG Academy football was going to compete like every day was the National Championship, regardless of what was going on around them. As the longtime phrase goes, "practice makes perfect," and that's exactly where the Ascenders' mindset resided. 

After returning for spring camp at the beginning of the year, no one could have predicted how the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year would finish out. From ever-changing schedules and news headlines to several weeks of virtual classes to lingering dreams of competing for a National Championship, 2020 couldn't have taken any more of a scenic route to the finish line.

When student-athletes finally learned they could check-in early ahead of the 2020 season, there was certainly a sigh of relief within the program. Regardless of outside competition opportunities, travel restrictions, or scheduling options, IMG Academy's football program was determined to defy the odds. They were focused on having a season that both aligned with safety protocols and regulations while also providing many players with a chance to develop and compete where they otherwise may not have had that opportunity elsewhere.

Fast forward to early September, and the first kick-off of the 2020 football season actually occurred during an away game against Venice High School. From there, the rest is history; history in the making, a historical year in all respects, and a season that made IMG Academy history.

With major college commitments, victory after victory, and a National Championship ultimately on the line, IMG Academy knew that this was their time to shine.

This year was a magical year for the IMG football program. The Academy provided us tremendous support to take on what 2020 had in front of us. From start to finish, our coaches and players' commitment to being number 1 across the board became our motivation. Our culture was driven by the energy created by the brotherhood. Culminating in an 8-0 record, a GEICO High School Bowl Series title, and a final No. 1 national ranking and National Championship, IMG Academy football proved that their dedication on and off the field, their unwavering mindset, and their ultimate motivation would drive them to the very top.
