BRADENTON, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2025) - IMG Academy, the world's leading sports education brand, has announced the promotion of Shannon ONeil to Lacrosse Director, where she will oversee the continued development and success of both the girls' and boys' lacrosse programs. ONeil has served as the Head National Girls Lacrosse Coach and Girls Program Lead since 2021, achieving remarkable growth and competitive success during her tenure.
In a short amount of time, ONeil built the girls' lacrosse program from the ground up, leading it to an all-time high national ranking of 12th in 2024. Under her leadership, the program not only achieved its best ranking in history but also celebrated multiple student-athletes earning prestigious awards and graduating to top women’s lacrosse programs across the country.
"Shannon's visionary leadership and proven track record of success have been instrumental in the growth and competitiveness of our girls' lacrosse program and we’re looking forward to the impact she will make as the leader of both the boys and girls programs going forward," said Brian Nash, Vice President of Athletics at IMG Academy. "Her dedication to empowering our student-athletes to win their future and the effort she puts forward in providing an unrivaled campus experience makes her the ideal leader to take our lacrosse program to new heights."
Before joining IMG Academy, ONeil held several Vice President roles at the GetWellNetwork, where she led initiatives in Pediatrics, Product Strategy, and Product Management.
ONeil also brings a wealth of coaching experience from her tenure as the Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse at Villanova University, where she earned Patriot League Coach of the Year honors and coached multiple student-athletes to All-Patriot League First and Second Team nominations.
"I am excited to grow the IMG Academy lacrosse program and unlock its full potential in ways we haven’t yet imagined," said ONeil. "Our goal is to make a real impact and empower our student-athletes to win their future, both on and off the field, and become nationally recognized for that reputation."
A decorated student-athlete herself, ONeil earned her bachelor's degree from Villanova University, where she was an All-American and is still second in All-Time Career Points and All-Time Assists. She also holds a Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
