Two recent IMG Academy Golf alumni, true freshman and Class of 2013 graduates, are dominating the links in Division-II. First to make a splash was Mario Beltran. The Valencia, Spain native made waves through October when he won the individual title in back-to-back appearances for the Buccaneers. The first title came at the Guy Harvey Invitational in Palm Beach Springs, Fla., October 7-8. Beltran tied with teammate Adam Svensson for individual honors at five-under 211, and they led the team to the overall team title. In Beltran’s next appearance at the Otter Invitational, he carded a five-under 211 to once again take the individual title, and a team runner-up finish. Barry is currently ranked No. 4 overall in Division-II.
Meanwhile, Beltran's former classmate, fellow member of the Class of 2013, Esteban Castro, put on a clinic for the University of West Florida Argos at the ASU Fall Beach Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala., Nov. 3-5. A native of Bogota Colombia, Castro finished with a six-under 210 to secure the individual title. As a team, his effort helped the currently No. 1 ranked Argos finish eight strokes ahead of second-place Louisiana-Lafayette, with a combined four-over 868 total.
According to the latest Golfstat Division-II rankings, Beltran and Castro are already among the top-50 players in the nation, coming in at No. 31 and 43, respectively.
