Every week of camp, IMG Academy selects the Athlete of the Week sponsored by Gatorade. The honoree is bestowed the G-Award in recognition of the athlete who displays Heart, Hustle and Soul, and exhibits a true desire to reach their true athletic potential.
The IMG Academy Girls Soccer winner of the Gatorade G-Award for the week of July 29 is 15-year-old Estefania Filgueiras from Caracas, Venezuela.
How long have you been playing soccer for?
I've been playing soccer since I was five years old.
Who is your coach?
Coach Kim Dean.
What are your favorite things about IMG Academy and why?
My favorite things about IMG Academy are the facilities and the weather. Every single day I step on the field I know I'm going to learn a lot of things. When I don't know how to do something, Coach Kim comes and explains it to me. Whenever I have questions, she always explains to me what to do and it makes me better everyday.
Do you have any pre-game rituals that help you prepare for a big game?
Before games, I listen to Hall of Fame by the Script and just try to concentrate and talk to my teammates.
What professional athlete inspires you the most?
The professional athlete that inspires me the most is Tobin Heath from the U.S. Women's National Team because she's really skillful and she had a big injury and came back stronger. She just made the World Cup and won the Olympics. I just love her.
What is your favorite thing to do after you win a game?
After I win a game, I usually go hang out with my teammates. We like to think and talk about the things we did in the game, like bad plays and good plays.
What motivates you to push through a tough practice?
What motivates me to push through a tough practice is knowing that if I play hard and give it all that I have then at the end of the day, I will be a better player.
