IMG Academy student-athlete continued a trend of Bollettieri Tennis program students saving their best for ITF tournaments. Just one year after IMG Academy’s Michael Mmoh won the Copa Universidad Galileo in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Kodali reached the finals of the same event to record his first major ITF result. With the strong performance, Kodali leaped more than 450 spots in the ITF Junior rankings to reach No. 679.
The 16-year old Kodali came to IMG Academy from Durham, N.C., and made a stunning run to the singles final. He beat opponents in straight sets in the round of 32, round of 16 and the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, Kodali was tested against the United States’ Jake Stefanik (No. 485 ITF), but overcame Stefanik’s challenge, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. In the singles final, Kodali stood his ground against Luke Jacob Ganble (USA, No. 255 ITF), but fell short by a tally of 5-7, 7-5, 2-6.
Anudeep is already back in action, and currently competing in the 2013 Panama Bowl in Llanos de Curundu, Panama. Kodali won his first match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 over Mexico's Gerardo Penchyna Cardenas.
