airweave, Japan’s leading producer of sleep accessories, has joined IMG Academy as the official mattress pad sponsor. Under the terms of the agreement, airweave will furnish every bed within the new IMG Academy Residence Hall, scheduled for completion in June 2013, with its innovative mattress pads to maximize student-athletes’ rest and recovery. IMG Academy trainees and their coaches will also play a role in the development and innovation behind airweave’s research toward new products in their exclusive category.
“Recovery is a critical factor in athletic development, so we are thrilled to provide our student-athletes with innovative sleep technology to restore their bodies and maintain peak performance,” said Greg Phillips, Vice President and Athletics Director, IMG Academy. “IMG Academy’s student-athletes work hard on the field and in the classroom, so providing them with innovative sleep technology to keep them sharp and well rested is an important addition to our program.”
Aligning with IMG Academy marks airweave’s first foray into the U.S. market. However, airweave has earned a reputation for providing athletes with innovative sleep solutions for many years. In Japan, airweave has been the sleeping pad of choice for athletes on the go, being utilized by top figure skater Mao Asada, a silver medalist in the 2010 Winter Olympics; men’s tennis star Kei Nishikori, ranked No. 16 ATP and winner of the 2012 Japan Open; and golf’s Mika Miyazato, No. 10 overall in the LPGA Rolex rankings. Nishikori and Miyazato are longtime IMG Academy trainees.
“This relationship with IMG Academy is going to be a tremendous asset to our growing company, and to the student-athletes who use our mattress pads,” remarked Motokuni Takaoka, President and CEO, airweave. “We will gather data from the students and coaches feedback to continue to develop our expanding product line, and to continue providing IMG Academy athletes with cutting edge sleep solutions to enhance their recovery, and the performance gains that come from better sleep.”
airweave joins a growing roster of IMG Academy sports performance sponsors like Under Armour, Gatorade, Motus Global, SPRI Products and ALINE Systems. With nearly 200,000 youth, adult, collegiate and professional athletes, coaches, trainers and other visitors passing through its campus annually, IMG Academy is the ideal research ‘lab’ for sports performance product development and innovation.
