Last night, three IMG Academy basketball program alumni went head-to-head in a critical Big XII matchup between the No. 9 ranked Kansas Jayhawks and the No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowboys. Jayhawks forward Jamari Traylor took on Cowboys forward Kamari Murphy and guard Ford Stuen in a nationally televised battle for first place in the conference.
Heading into the game, both teams had a conference record of 9-3, with each hoping to tie with Kansas State in first place. It was a hard fought game that lasted through two overtimes, but Traylor and the Jayhawks were able to pull it out in the end with a 68-67 win.
Jamari Traylor led IMG Academy alumni with four points, four rebounds, a block and a highlight-reel put-back dunk that can be seen here:
The Jayhawks may have had a little more on their mind than just beating the Cowboys to move into first place. Earlier this month, Oklahoma State snapped Kansas’ 33-game home winning streak with an 85-80 victory at Allen Fieldhouse. It was a tough loss for the Jayhawks, who had not lost to the Cowboys on their home court since 1989.
Traylor graduated from the IMG Academy basketball program in the spring of 2011, and is now a redshirt freshman at Kansas. Kamari Murphy played limited minutes, but made his presence known with a first half block. Murphy was a member of the IMG Academy class of 2012, and is currently a freshman in Stillwater. His teammate Ford Stuen was his classmate at IMG Academy, and opted to walk on with with Cowboys program, despite having been recruited by several Division-I programs.
