Pro Bowl Tradition Continues at IMG Academy

IMG Academy
Russell Wilson Training at IMG Academy

Aloha! It’s that time of the year again – Pro Bowl time! This year, the fan-friendly exhibition, which has taken place in Aloha Stadium for 30 of the last 31 years, will be played January 27, 2013, and is expected to attract many NFL fans and players, including a host of IMG Academy trainees. Last year, IMG Academy was proud to announce that five former trainees would be attending the Pro Bowl. This year, that number has doubled to ten players who previously trained at IMG Academy.

Of the ten, six were named to the NFC Pro Bowl team, and four were named to the AFC Pro Bowl team. In addition, three of the ten are honored as starters of the game and will have plenty of time to shine in Honolulu. The players participating are listed below:

NFC

QB Drew Brees

*QB Robert Griffin III

QB Eli Manning

DL Gerald McCoy

TE Kyle Rudolph

QB Russell Wilson

AFC

*WR A.J. Green

CB Jonathon Joseph

TE Heath Miller

*LB Von Miller

 *Indicates starter

These players have all trained at IMG Academy at various times over the past few years, whether it be as part of the NFLPA Rookie Symposium or NFL Lockout Training Program held at IMG Academy in 2011, or past NFL Combine/Draft/Off-season Training Programs. QB Russell Wilson was a member of the 2012 NFL Combine/Draft Training Program who worked closely with IMG Academy’s Director of Football, Chris Weinke, to prepare for the NFL. Through his hard work and determination, Wilson moved himself comfortably into the third round of the Draft. He took the League by surprise in the preseason when he beat out veteran Matt Flynn for the starting job, and hasn’t looked back since.

The Pro Bowl rosters are a great indicator of the success that players like Wilson have had after training at IMG Academy. Here’s to continuing the tradition…
