It’s been called “The World’s Toughest Job Interview.” For seven days at the NFL Combine (Feb. 20-26), college football’s best will be measured, interviewed, tested, watched and analyzed by countless NFL coaches, general managers and scouts prior to the NFL Draft. To prepare, more than three-dozen top prospects traveled to IMG Academy for six-plus weeks of position-specific skill-work, speed and movement, physical and mental conditioning, communications and leadership training, nutrition, vision training, sports medicine and more with world-renowned coaches and trainers.
Justin Hunter is a wide receiver out of Tennessee, and world-class long jumper. Hunter left his junior year in order to pursue the NFL. He recently became the father of a beautiful baby boy named Braylon, now six months old. Hunter is motivated to continue to perform and make his family happy. After hitting the weights at IMG Academy, Hunter enlightened us on various aspects of his life, from his family to his receiving style to his favorite television shows.
Justin Hunter on…
…leaving school early to pursue the NFL
It’s just a blessing that I am even good enough to go. So I’m real excited to go. I know it’s going to be a new, fun experience for me.
…his hometown Virginia Beach
I love the beach but it’s going to be good to get away and see new things. I’m definitely going to miss it though.
…the NFL wide receiver that he is most like
I’ve been compared to AJ Green a lot, and personally I think Randy Moss. We both can go down field and be a deep-ball threat and stretch the field. At times I try to model my game off of him, but my game is still unique so in the end, I just play my game and be myself.
…training at IMG Academy
I love it here. I love the weather here, especially. There are so many fun people around and it’s easy to make friends. I’m doing everything I’m instructed to do and it’s helping me reach my goal of putting on weight quickly.
…who inspires him most
My whole family inspires me the most. I do everything for them, and they’ve done so much to get me to where I am today.
…what it means to be a role model to his son, Braylon
That’s one of the biggest parts of my life. I try to be the best I can be for him because I want him to follow my footsteps when he gets older.
…what to expect at the NFL combine
I just know I’m going to have a lot of people there, and they’re all going be ready to compete. So I’m just going to keep preparing and when the day comes, I’m going to go hard.
…his favorite rap artist
Kanye West is my favorite for a lot of reasons. I love how he tells stories with his music. He and Kid Cudi are all I listen to. I could never choose a particular favorite song though; it’s too difficult because I like them all.
I really don’t have a favorite meal. I like to eat anything that is in front of me, but if I had to choose, I’d say pizza.
My favorite shows are the Wayans Brothers, My Wife and Kids, and Everybody Hates Chris.
