IMG Academy alumnus and class of 2012 No.1 overall recruit Bree Heaberlin did her part this season to lead the UNC women's soccer team to their 21st national title. Turning what could have been one of their worst seasons on record into a national title (15-5-3), the Tar Heels had reason to celebrate a hard-fought battle after defeating Penn State 4-1 in the finals. Penn State was the last stop for the No.13 Tar Heels, who defeated three of the four top seeds in the tournament — BYU, Stanford and Penn State — in back to back contests.
Heaberlin trained at IMG Academy prior to her enrolling in UNC. Heaberlin is also a member of the U20 Women's National Team. She was a member of the team that won the 2012 CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship and earned a berth to the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan.
