Mangok Mathiang, a 6-foot-10 center from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., has signed as a late 2012 recruit for the University of Louisville men’s basketball team, according to Loren Jackson, coach of IMG’s postgraduate team.
U of L has not announced the signing and would be prohibited from commenting if it hasn’t received the paperwork. Originally from Sudan, Mathiang could have issues gaining NCAA eligibility.
“We think there’s some things we’ve got to take care of, but he’ll be there when school starts,” Jackson said, adding that he touted Mathiang to U of L coach Rick Pitino and staff about two months ago.
“I have a relationship with coach (Pitino) and told him I had a kid that would be a great fit,” Jackson said.
Mathiang averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for IMG’s postgrad team, which went 28-2 and had 11 NCAA Division I signees. He also had scholarship offers from Kansas State, Georgia, Central Michigan, Auburn and Mississippi State, Jackson said.
